Coaching Philosophy
Regular coaching is a vital part of a golfer’s improvement and development. Golf coaching sessions should take place in the appropriate environment; on-course sessions are a vital and often missed part of a player’s development and success. When changes are required, these need to be measured and only done to benefit the golfer and their control of the golf ball flight. This will not only aid their learning and understanding but, most importantly, their enjoyment of the game! As a coach, I acknowledge that each individual I meet will have different requirements. This drives me to continually learn and improve so I can provide the best possible experience for each golfer I am lucky enough to work with.

Why Book With Me?

Whether it’s a one-off session or a long-term programme, we will set clear and agreed goals to guide your improvement.

Lessons are delivered with clear and understandable communication, both during the session and afterwards, so you always know what to focus on.

Progression is measured, and ongoing communication between sessions is encouraged, giving you the support you need to enjoy and improve your golf.
Testimonials
“Six years ago I began my golfing journey and five years ago I submitted my first WHS card. Today, I am about to become Lady Captain at my club and am close to achieving a single-figure handicap.
The biggest difference has been the coaching. I have worked with Roy Ellis for most of my golfing journey, including the past three years at My Golf Academy at Horsham Golf.”

“Every lesson, clinic and Academy event has helped me improve, with my handicap continuing to come down as my results have improved. Roy focuses on me as an individual, building on my strengths rather than trying to fit me into a textbook swing.
I could not recommend Roy or My Golf Academy more highly.”
“I have been working with Roy for the past three years and, in that time, he has helped me go from a complete beginner to a 17.6 handicap, something I never imagined achieving so quickly.
Roy understands that everyone learns differently and adapts his coaching to suit the individual. Whether it is visual demonstrations, hands-on guidance or breaking things down into simple steps, he always finds an approach that works.”

“As we’ve got to know each other, we’ve also enjoyed playing a few rounds together, which has made the whole learning experience even more enjoyable. I could not recommend Roy highly enough to anyone starting golf or looking to take their game to the next level.”
“Over the past year, Roy’s coaching has made a huge difference to both my game and my handicap. His patient approach and ability to break down complex movements into simple, easy-to-follow steps have helped me improve with confidence.
We first met during the complimentary swing analysis when I joined the club, and from that point he created a coaching plan that was built around my goals, not his.”

” His feedback is always clear, insightful and supportive, whether we are working on my driver, wedges or putting.
I have seen real improvements in my performance and know there is still more to come with Roy’s guidance. I would happily recommend him to anyone, whether they are new to golf or simply looking to fine-tune their game.”
FAQs
What can a golfer expect from a lesson with you?
They can expect that I will listen carefully to their questions and requirements, and structure the lesson around the player and what we agree to be the most important area to focus on. I will provide a clear plan for the lesson and individual training sessions, along with notes and videos for reference, and offer continued feedback after the lesson.
What aspect of the game do you specialise in coaching?
I specialise in coaching the beginners and the improvers.
What technology do you use in your lessons and how do you believe it helps?
The technologies I use are: video (OnForm app) – which provides good visuals, shows improvement, and enables communication with the coach in between lessons. Flightscope – helps analyse impact and understand ball flight. Hackmotion – provides game-changing feedback for wrist conditions and clubface control.
What would you say to a beginner who might be nervous about the idea of taking up golf as a sport?
I would explain the positives: being outdoors in nature, the opportunity to make new friends, and the health benefits. I would guide them towards appropriate coaching sessions where we introduce golf in a friendly, non-judgmental manner, understanding their feelings.
What three words would best describe you as a coach?
Reliable, personable, caring.
